The First Soup
Cooking Grandma's vegetable soup for the first time
Today is my first day of cooking in the diner.
I want to make my grandmother's warm .
I open her recipe book to the page.
The recipe is simple, but my hands are shaking.
First, wash the carrots and cut them into pieces.
Next, the onions and them very thin.
"I am cutting the onions now," I say aloud.
My eyes hurt, and a few tears fall down.
Heat the in a big on the stove.
Add the onions and cook them until they turn soft.
is rising from the into the air.
The kitchen is getting warm and smells very nice.
Now add the carrots, potatoes, and a little salt.
Pour in the water and wait for twenty minutes.
I am stirring the slowly with a wooden spoon.
The is boiling, and small bubbles come up.
it carefully, and add more salt if needed.
I take a small spoon and the hot .
It tastes like my grandmother's from my childhood.
I am smiling because the feels like home.
I fill one and put it on the counter.
My first is ready, and I feel proud.
