A Cucumber Gift
A friendship grows by the water
The next day, I went to my grandmother's .
Long green cucumbers were growing on the tall plants.
I picked three fresh cucumbers for my new friend.
"Where are you going, Saki?" my grandmother asked me.
"I am taking a to the river," I said.
She looked at me but did not ask more questions.
I ran down the to the green river.
The kappa was waiting for me on a stone.
"I brought cucumbers for you," I said with a smile.
The kappa's eyes were shining like two green lights.
"Thank you, kind girl," the happy spirit said softly.
It took a cucumber and ate it very fast.
"This is the best cucumber in a hundred years!"
I laughed because the kappa was eating so happily.
Right now, we are sitting together by the water.
The kappa is telling me stories about the old river.
Long ago, many children played here every single day.
They gave the kappa cucumbers and sang happy songs.
"I am very now," the kappa said quietly.
"You are my first friend in many long years."
I felt and happy inside my whole .
"I will come back ," I promised the spirit.
The kappa is smiling and waving its small hand.
We are becoming good friends, day by day.
The old river did not feel anymore.
