The Torn Map

The next day, Captain Vela called me to her room.

A big old map lay open on the table.

The map was torn, and one corner was missing.

"This is a map to a great treasure," she said.

There were mountains, rivers, and small islands on it.

There was a red X near the bottom edge.

"The treasure is on the Island of Two Moons," she said.

"There are two moons in the sky above it."

"When they meet, they show the secret place."

I looked closely and saw strange old words.

There were tiny drawings of ships and stars.

"Where is the missing corner?" I asked her.

"A rival captain has it," she answered quietly.

"His name is Kane, and he is dangerous."

"He wants the same treasure for himself."

"But we have the bigger half of the map."

There was a long line from the port to the island.

"The trip is far, and the sea is wild," she said.

"There are storms and rocks along the way."

I felt afraid, but I did not step back.

"I will help you find the island," I said.

Captain Vela rolled up the map with care.

"Good," she said. "We sail at dawn tomorrow."

That night, I dreamed of two silver moons.
