The Letter in the Rock
A hidden letter reveals Grandpa's old friend
The rock stood on the hill, taller than a house.
Near the top, I found a small in the stone.
Inside the was an old metal , cold and rusty.
My hands were colder than ice, but I opened it slowly.
Inside the , I found a in my grandfather's writing.
The paper was older and yellower than the map.
I sat on the rock and read his words carefully.
"Dear traveler," the began, "you are braver than I was."
"When I was young, I had a best in the north."
"We were closer than brothers, but the took us apart."
"I was too to go back, so I stayed in the south."
"Today I am old, and my biggest is this ."
"My is still waiting in the snow town, I believe."
"Please the journey that I never finished."
I felt on my face, warmer than the cold wind.
Now I understood why the map was so important.
In the past, my grandfather was quiet and sad.
Now I know the reason: he lost his dearest .
The north was farther than any place I knew.
But my wish to help him was stronger than my fear.
I put the in my bag, next to the old ticket.
The snow town was still many miles away.
"I will find your , Grandpa," I said aloud.
Then I climbed down and walked toward the coldest north.
