The Date That Went Too Well

My romantic dinner had an uninvited star

For months, I had wanted to ask my Mei out for dinner.

Finally, I found the to invite her, and she happily agreed to come.

I decided to cook at home, hoping to make a good .

Luka insisted on helping, though I was old enough to know that was risky.

"Trust me," he said. "I enjoy planning romantic evenings."

He was too excited to sit still, so he ran around arranging candles everywhere.

When Mei arrived, the apartment looked warm enough to feel truly welcoming.

To my surprise, the dinner Luka had prepared tasted absolutely wonderful.

Mei kept smiling and thanked me for going to so much trouble.

Everything was going too smoothly for me to relax completely.

Then Luka appeared, wearing a suit and carrying a violin he could not play.

He started to play, and the sound was too painful to describe politely.

Mei tried not to laugh, but she was clearly enjoying the strange show.

To make things worse, Luka began telling stories about me.

He told her about the time I had cried during a children's cartoon.

I wanted to disappear, yet Mei seemed to find it rather than sad.

"Your roommate is funny enough to have his own TV show," she whispered.

By the end of the night, she was laughing hard enough to cry.

Honestly, the date had gone too well, and that was the real problem.

Mei liked Luka's jokes so much that she barely noticed me at all.

When she left, she said, "Please thank Luka for a wonderful evening."

I stood at the door, not sure whether to feel happy or hurt.

Luka patted my shoulder and promised to stay in his room next time.

Then my phone buzzed: Mei had sent a message, but it was addressed to Luka.
