Home, Finally
The worst roommate turned out to be the best friend
If Luka had not left that note, I might never have gone looking for him.
Never had my clean apartment felt so and cold before.
If I had spoken more kindly that night, none of this would have happened.
It was the silence, not the mess, that I finally could not .
I searched every cafe and park where he might have gone.
Had I known how much I would miss him, I would have apologised sooner.
Not only had he brought , but he had also brought colour to my life.
If he had stayed a stranger, I would never have learned to laugh at myself.
At last, I found him sitting alone on a bench in the rain.
"If I had been a better roommate," he said quietly, "you would not have shouted."
"No," I replied. "If I had thanked you more often, you would have stayed."
It was I, not you, who should , I told him honestly.
Had he not knocked on my door months ago, my life would still be .
Never before had I admitted that I actually needed another person.
"If we had met years earlier," Luka smiled, "we would have caused twice the trouble."
Only then did I realise how much his had healed my heart.
We walked home together, and never had a rainy street looked so beautiful.
If I had lost him for good, I would have regretted it for the rest of my life.
Back at the flat, he unpacked the very boxes he had carried away.
"Welcome home," I said, and rarely have two words felt so true.
That night, his machines beeped, his tools scattered, and I did not mind at all.
What I had once called the worst roommate had become my closest friend.
Had you told me this a year ago, I would have laughed in .
"Home, finally," Luka whispered, and for once, both of us were completely happy.
