The Island of Fog

On the sixth day, we reached a foggy island.

Thick white fog covered the whole shore.

We could not see the trees or the rocks.

Captain Vela opened the old map again.

"Read the words on the map, Fin," she said.

There were three lines of strange old writing.

"Follow the river to the tall stone," it said.

"Turn left at the tree with two heads."

"Count ten steps and dig near the roots."

We got off the ship and walked to the shore.

"Stay close to me," the captain told us.

"Do not touch the plants on this island."

We found a small river between the wet rocks.

We followed it slowly through the thick fog.

Soon we saw a tall stone in the mist.

"Turn left here," Bran read from the map.

We found a strange tree with two tops.

"Count your steps carefully," the captain said.

I counted ten steps and stopped by the roots.

"Dig here," Captain Vela said with a smile.

We dug into the soft ground with our hands.

But we did not find a treasure box there.

Instead, we found another small piece of map.

"The island keeps its secret well," she said.
